Dr. Alan Wenger has had a busy month, performing three concerts as principal solo cornetist with the Fountain City Brass Band, with solos with the band on two of those concerts, Bach Orchestral Suite No. 3 in two performances with the Kansas City Chamber Orchestra, and in the horn section this past Saturday night to back up the Four Tops and the Temptations at the Starlight Theater in Kansas City.

UCM music alumni victorious at Carrollton Festival!

UCM music graduates claimed many of the 2008 trophies at the Carrollton Band Day on September 27, 2008.  In addition to numerous 2nd and 3rd place awards, the following 1st place awards were achieved by UCM alumni:

ATHENS SAXOPHONE QUARTET to present recital at UCM

The Central Missouri Friends of Music Society presents the Athens Saxophone Quartet on Wednesday, September 17 at 7:30pm in Hart Recital Hall.   
 
This ensemble of four virtuoso saxophone performers will be bringing a completely new sound experience to the Hart Recital Hall stage. The program will include a World Premiere of a composition by UCM’s own Eric Honourhere is no water but only rock
 
The Athens Quartet is composed of members:
    Athanasios Zervas  – composer, theorist, saxophonist, and conductor. He has written more than 70 pieces for ensembles who have performed his works all over the world and in Carnegie Hall.
    Dionisios S. Roussos – won prizes from the Athens Conservatory and Young Soloists Award of the National Radio and TV of Greece
    Leo Saguiguit – assistant professor of music at University of Missouri Columbia. Holds an MM from Northwestern University where he was a student of Frederick Hemke. He has performed at major festivals and universities throughout the US.
    Eric Honour – recently returned from performances in Greece and Ireland, he has composed one of the pieces that will have its world premiere at this concert:   here is no water only rock
 
There will be a reception following the program featuring Greek inspired food provided by Chef Breshears and the Quantity Foods class.
 
Seating is general admission.

Tickets are $12.00 for adults,  $5.00 for UCM students and children 17 & under. 
ALL MUSIC STUDENTS will be able to pick up free tickets during business hours on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week. They must pick them up during this time because tickets will cost $5.00 for students at the door on Wed evening.

FACULTY SHOWCASE 2008 – Central Missouri Friends of Music Society

The Faculty of the Department of Music join forces to present Faculty Showcase 2008: Beyond the Horizon. A mix of the classic, the new, and the Cool.  Soloists will be performing selections from the standard repertoire as well as new pieces for the Chapman Stick!  Ensembles will perform pieces ranging from classics of the jazz repertoire, arranged by our own Dr. Check, to selections from Leonard Bernstein’s Mass, arranged by Dr. Alan Wenger.
